56,000 gross square feet
This concept was developed for a proposed replacement facility, consolidating Tunnelton-Denver Elementary School and the antiquated South Preston Middle School.
The primary concept goal was to use sustainable principles
to create the best learning environment possible. The building must be
flexible, multi-use and community centered. A sustainable approach was taken
in orienting the building on the site to maximize daylighting and winter heat
gain, and in the use of forms and materials culturally appropriate to the
location

The materials and systems are considered based on their high quality, low-maintenance, cost effectiveness, cost savings potential, low/nontoxic nature and their post use recyclability.
The concept develops a model that addresses the concerns of
creating an exciting, healthier, student centered educational facility
adherent to the functional and spatial requirements of the State of West
Virginia.
